DBOM Goes National!
Responding to God’s call and bolstered by encouragement and support from the United Methodist Connectional Table and the General Commission on United Methodist Men, Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries is expanding. In 2011, expansions are planned in five states. Work is already underway in Virginia, Kansas and Tennessee. Work is planned for the Baltimore/Washington area and the state of Georgia later in the year. “We are very excited about this project,” said Dr. Mark Hicks, DBOM of NC Executive Director and President of the new national movement. “We draw strength from the Lord and the servant heart of prison ministry advocates all across the connection to make this happen.”
DBOM of NC has established a new parent organization called “Disciple Bible Outreach National.” Hicks will serve as President of this new organization. A five person body will comprise the founding Board. Board members include Bishop Richard B. Wilke, author of the DISCIPLE Bible Study series; Bishop Kenneth Carder, Bishop and Professor of the Practice of Ministry at Duke University, The Divinity School; Gilbert Hanke, General Secretary of the General Commission on United Methodist Men; and Ernie Pearson, Partner with Nexsen|Pruet Law Firm of Raleigh and DBOM of NC Board Chairperson. “This new board is a dream-team, Hicks said. Their vast experience and dedication to the work of the Lord is exceptional. I am honored and humbled to work with them.”
